I shall post regularly pithy thoughts (between 150 and 250 words) and put them in the “Thought of the Day” category.
We are in the midst of economic turmoil and it seems that the choices to get us out of the mess are a brand of monopolistic capitalism and the radical collectivist notion of socialism masking itself as a “regulated” form of capitalism while reeking of a latter-day Marxism. As these ideologies try to sport a façade of clarity and opposition, the two approaches dangerously, falsely and paradoxically presuppose man’s primary function is as an economic animal. Needless to say, the current debate and the solutions proposed as a result are ineffective.
Do we need a “third way” to enter this discussion? Perhaps, but it must be principled and practical. Shall we just “reform” ad nauseam? Likely not as it gets more than a bit tedious. G.K. Chesterton’s words are more than sensible here: “The reformer is always right about what is wrong. He is generally wrong about what is right.”
