Update

Two items up on Bleacher Report.  Duke and Bill Walton.
Also, this as-of-yet unpublished letter to The Oregonian.  Yes, soccer-related once again.

In response to “Money Gap Could Block MLS Soccer Team”:

I find it welcoming that for all of the Paulson family, City of Portland, and MLS cheerleading going on at your paper, you publish an article that has some semblance of criticism of their stadia financing package.

Things never changed, though, and that’s the rub.

A money gap always existed.  The City’s plan was always expensive and shady.  Salem was never pleased with the Council’s shenanigans.

This boondoggle didn’t make any sense months ago, was even more unsound during the frenzied avant franchise days, and stinks to high-heaven now that everyone’s cards are finally on the table.

Mayor Adams pleads to the public that the “world economic crisis” is the major culprit blocking this deal.  No, it falls on Sam’s own shoulders!  For: his lies and fallacious economics are to blame.

This plan can still be scuttled.  Will it mean the end of MLS in the Rose City?  Unlikely, but a game of chicken awaits.

Portlanders can, however, stand-up and use the ballot box to show the Fourth Avenue poltroons that we don’t appreciate their tomfoolery at our expense.
